Description

Recreate the famous Starbucks Grilled Cheese at home with this easy and delicious recipe. Featuring buttery sourdough bread, a perfectly melted blend of white cheddar and mozzarella, and a golden, crispy crust, this sandwich is the ultimate comfort food. Whether you pair it with tomato soup or enjoy it on its own, this homemade version is even better than the original!

Ingredients

Scale

Bread

  • 2 slices thick-cut sourdough bread

Cheese Blend

  • ½ cup white cheddar cheese, shredded
  • ½ cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 tbsp grated parmesan (optional, for extra crispiness)

Butter Spread

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder (optional, for added flavor)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Butter Spread

  • In a small bowl, mix softened butter with garlic powder (if using).
  • Spread a thin, even layer of butter on one side of each sourdough slice.

2. Assemble the Sandwich

  • Place the cheddar and mozzarella cheese evenly on the unbuttered side of one bread slice.
  • If using, sprinkle parmesan over the buttered side of the bread for a crispier crust.
  • Place the second slice of bread on top, buttered side facing out.

3. Toast the Sandwich

  • Heat a skillet or panini press over medium-low heat.
  • Place the sandwich in the pan, buttered side down, and cook for 3–4 minutes or until the bottom is golden brown.
  • Flip carefully and toast the other side for another 3–4 minutes until the cheese is melted and the bread is crispy.

4. Serve & Enjoy

  • Let the sandwich rest for 1 minute before slicing.
  • Serve warm, with a side of tomato soup or crispy fries for the full café experience.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, drizzle a bit of honey over the grilled cheese before serving.
  • You can use a panini press for even toasting without flipping.
  • Try Gruyère, provolone, or gouda as alternatives for a unique twist.
