Description

This homemade American cheese is rich, creamy, and perfectly sliceable—ideal for sandwiches, burgers, and more with real ingredients and zero additives.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • ½ cup whole milk or evaporated milk
  • 1 tbsp unflavored gelatin
  • 3 tbsp water (for blooming)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Bloom gelatin in 3 tbsp warm water; set aside.
  2. Melt cheddar, butter, and milk in a saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly.
  3. Add bloomed gelatin, baking soda, and salt; stir until smooth.
  4. Blend until fully creamy and pour into a lined mold.
  5. Chill for 3–4 hours, then slice and serve.

Notes

Try swapping cheddar for Colby or Jack for a milder flavor.
